What this assumes
This estimate assumes a single person who is a Canadian resident for the full year. Future tax brackets, credits, the income threshold for OAS repayments and withdrawal rules stay at 2026 values. Age and pension income tax credits, pension splitting, the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) and other benefits are not included.
Withdrawals follow this fixed order: required RRIF/LIF withdrawals, non-registered savings, TFSA, extra RRSP/RRIF withdrawals, then any further LIF withdrawals allowed. The calculator does not compare strategies to find the best order.
Use your age on January 1. The plan covers years up to, but not including, the ending age. CPP, OAS and other pensions begin in the first year when your January 1 age reaches the chosen start age. Payments always cover a full year.
Enter yearly benefits before tax, using 2026 dollars for your chosen start age. CPP and OAS increase with assumed inflation. The calculator adds no further increase for a delayed start or for OAS at age 75.
Investment growth is added before withdrawals at year end. Required RRIF/LIF withdrawals use January 1 balances. There is no required RRIF withdrawal in its first year. Only ordinary RRIF rules are included, using your age rather than a spouse's age.
Non-registered investments grow only through increases in value, with gains taxed when sold. Each sale uses a proportional share of the adjusted cost base. Half of each positive gain on investments sold is included in taxable income, once. Capital-loss tax relief, interest, dividends and fees beyond those allowed for in your assumed return are not included.
Any money left after tax and spending is reinvested in non-registered savings and added to its adjusted cost base. The report includes every year, including spending that cannot be covered after savings run out.
What this assumes · continued
Investment returns stay the same each year. The estimate does not include market swings, the effect of when gains or losses happen, future law changes or tax on death. Ending balances are before any tax from selling investments or withdrawing all remaining money.
Amounts include assumed inflation and are shown in each year's dollars.
The calculator uses fixed yearly investment returns after fees. This is an example, not a forecast. Actual returns vary; losses, especially early in retirement, can greatly change the result. Amounts are in Canadian dollars and rounded for display.
Important limit: After-tax amounts use a limited estimate based on 2026 tax rules. Age and pension tax credits, income splitting and several other credits are excluded, so the money you can actually spend may differ greatly. Future tax rules and LIF withdrawal factors are assumptions.
These estimates are for learning and planning, not investment, insurance or tax advice. All amounts are in Canadian dollars. Results are rounded and are not guaranteed.
